Remove background from car image

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 ·

This car tutorial will teach you how to remove the background area from your car image. You are required to the use the extract filter for this tutorial. This tutorial is useful if you want to isolate the car from the background. I have used a free stock image which is available from: www.sxc.hu

Remove background from car image

Step 1

Open an image of a car in Photoshop.

Step 2

Choose Filter > Extract and an extract window should pop up.
Now using the highlighter tool draw an outline around the area you wish to retain, which would be the car.
You can adjust the brush size to your liking and also use the zoom tool if you wish. If you make a mistake you can use the eraser tool.

Step 3

Still in the extract window, select the fill tool and fill in area you wish to retain and click ok. Your image should look like below:

Step 4

Your image should now be extracted. Use the eraser tool to tidy up the edges of the extracted image. If you have extracted too much of your car you can use the history brush tool to recover the lost area.

You should now be able to remove the background from a car image. Why not checkout the other tutorials?
