Carbon fibre hood in Photoshop

In this car tutorial you will learn how to create a carbon fibre hood in Photoshop. This process involves superimposing a texture of carbon fibre on top of the current hood of the car. You will need an image of a car and a image of carbon fibre for this tutorial.

Step 1

Open an image of a car in Photoshop.




Step 2

Make a selection around the hood of the car like below. You can either use the pen, polygon lasso or the quick mask tool.




Step 3

Copy the selection of the hood onto a new layer by selecting Ctrl + J.


Step 4

Open a texture of carbon fibre and then copy it and paste it into the image of a car. Select the Free transform tool (Ctrl + T) and resize the texture to the same as the hood. You can also use the perspective and distort tool to position the texture into place.




Step 5

Now return to your duplicated hood layer and choose Select > Load selection you should now the selection around the hood.




Step 6

Select your carbon fibre layer then choose Select > Inverse and hit the delete key. Deselect the layer by pressing Ctrl + D.


Step 7

Now change the blending styles to Overlay. Then select Image > Adjustment > Brightness/Contrast and adjust the value accordingly to your image.
