Chrome car colour

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 ·

This car tutorial will teach you how to create a chrome car colour. You are required to use the curve adjustments for this tutorial. This effect works best on a car with black colour. I have used a free stock image of a car which is available from: everystockphoto.com

Chrome car colour

Step 1

Open an image of a car in Photoshop.
Duplicate the layer by pressing Ctrl + J.

Step 2

Reset the colour palette by pressing the “D” key.
Select a brush with an appropriate brush size and enter quick mask mode by selecting the “Q” key.
Now paint the areas of the car where you don’t want the chrome paint like below:

You can alternatively use the pen or lasso tool if you find it easier to make the selection.

Step 3

Exit the quick mask mode by selecting the “Q” key again and you should get something like below:

Step 4

Select Image > Adjustment > Curves and adjust the curve to your liking.

Step 5 – optional

If your chrome colour is looking a little light, you can select Image > Adjustment > Brightness/Contract and adjust the brightness slider.

You should now have a chrome car effect.
